To those who can’t listen to Badfinger’s “Baby Blue” without weeping into that pile of meth you bought for sentimental reasons, I have wonderful news: Better Call Saul, AMC’s spinoff of Breaking Bad starring Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, may include Walter White story-lines.
However, they will likely take place in the halcyon days of yore, aka before White turned into America’s favorite dad/drug dealer and was just a high school teacher getting annual subpar b-day handjobs and praying for the end.
“One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on Breaking Bad,” said executive producer Peter Gould in the most baiting statement I have ever heard, ever.

The show takes place in 2002, six years before Goodman becomes involved with White’s antics, and will also jump between several decades including timelines both before and after White’s death. But White will not be the focus of the show.

“We’re trying to make something that stands on its own that has an entertainment value that is not just about seeing a series of old favorites. It’s not the series equivalent of a clip show. We’re trying to balance these things out” said Gould (“Are you or are you not bringing Walter White back to us, sir,” retorted my inner crybaby).

Whether or not White is returning, the fact that that the show creators used “What problem does Saul Goodman solve?” as a writing prompt is reason enough for me to tune in. Not that the show needs fans to increase chances of getting picked up for a second season — AMC ordered season two before season one has a premiere date more solid than “early 2015.”
And now, just because I can stand to watch knowing I may get another chance to love and hate Walter White:
