Though there is still a dedicated contingent of Netflix users who still take advantage of the DVD-by-mail service, the rise of streaming has definitely made it a less-robust community. That community, however, noticed that Netflix had quietly phased out Saturday processing.
A user on the Netflix Community forums first posted about late last month, saying,
“I did not learn of this change from the media. I did not learn of this change through an email from Netflix. I learned of this change while speaking to Netflix Customer Service about a problem with their website. They told me that Saturday deliveries were discontinued.”
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Engadget that they ended Saturday processing entirely in June, noting that the company had been “transitioning in that direction over the past year.”
Netflix’s official help page now states that “Netflix generally processes shipments Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.”
Although Saturday was typically a low-volume processing day, it’s clear that Netflix’s business model for physical DVDs no longer supports this extra shipping day. Netflix started out only doing Monday through Friday processing, and a few years back added Saturday (as quietly as they just killed it).
So – did you even notice?
