Courtney Love says she is putting together a movie about late husband and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s life. This year marks 20 years since the death of Cobain in what was ruled a suicide. The singer’s death is remembered by many of that generation as a tragedy on a par with the death of John Lennon.
Since Cobain’s death, things have not always been rosy between widow Courtney and the remaining members of Nirvana, who have gone on to other careers. Cobain also left behind a daughter, Francis Bean Cobain.
Love says she hopes to get the biopic started soon.
“The biopic should start within the next year or so. CAA (Creative Artists Agency) directly sent me actors’ (demo) reels. That was really tough because these boys are so pretty, so cute. I won’t name names because I don’t want to jinx it for anyone but these are 25-year-olds who are blond, gorgeous and the new Brad Pitts. There’s a ton of those. Some are really good actors, not just pretty faces,” she said.
Love herself has done a few good turns on the big screen, including in The People vs. Larry Flynt, alongside Woody Harrelson, as well as Man On the Moon with Jim Carrey. She is also in this season of Sons of Anarchy on FX.
But Love says she is happy to leave casting decisions in the hands of experienced casting directors, who will have a better eye for talent in that realm than she does.
“Some beautiful blond, tragic, gorgeous actor boy is hitting on me, and why? He wants to play Kurt. So I am moving that over to the agency side. I am not Cecil B. DeMille or anything like that. I don’t want to be the producer per se,” she said.
But the project is attracting lots of hopefuls.
“Honey, I can’t go out in Hollywood at night without somebody grabbing me and saying ‘I want to be a part of this’, and we’re talking to the biggest producers in town,” she said.
