Netflix Is ‘Positive’ Arrested Development Season 5 Will Happen

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any news on the Arrested Development front. It took many years for the show to finally be revived after its premature cancellation at FOX. Netflix eventually swooped in, and saved the day, debuting Season 4 as a Netflix Original last year.

Obviously, questions about another season immediately started after its debut, and Netflix has pretty much been on board the whole time. Creator Mitch Hurwitz has also expressed a desire to keep the story going, supposedly with a movie, and then more show.

Over a year ago, Hurwitz indicated that he already had some story elements in place for another season. Search data indicated that fans were hungry for Season 5. Talks were already underway last summer for it.

But as with Season 4, getting that whole cast and crew back together for another season of magic (okay, Season 4 wasn’t as magical as the previous 3, but it was still nice to see everyone back together for it) is a difficult thing to do, but according to USA Today, which quotes Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos, the company is “positive” that a fifth season will come eventually. Gary Levin reports:

Sarandos is also “positive” that another season of Arrested Development is in the offing: “It’s just a matter of when,” he says, adding that sorting out actors’ schedules is a concern: It was “a fair criticism” of last year’s revival of the cult comedy “that the cast didn’t appear on screen often enough together.”

Netflix has a ton of other shows on its plate, but Arrested fans can rest easy knowing they’ll get more, even if it requires some patience. But hey, if you’re an Arrested Development fan, you’re very used to waiting.

Earlier this year, Netflix signed Hurwitz on for additional shows.
