In 2001, Ben Stiller asserted that “I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.” Thirteen years later, Stiller has had plenty of opportunities to learn if there was anything more out there. Apparently, there wasn’t much, hence rumors of a Zoolander sequel coming soon.

In an interview with Vulture, Stiller’s co-star in Zoolander, Justin Theroux, shed some light on the future plans for the comedy cult-classic:

Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again. We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.

The news that there is a Zoolander sequel script comes as both excitement and relief as the sequel was first announced back in 2010 and received no traction afterwards. At that time, it was rumored that Theroux, who had writing credits under his belt through his work on Stiller-produced Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, would be directing the sequel. Now that four more years have passed, however, things have appeared to change:

I don’t think I’m going to do it [direct Zoolander sequel] anymore. It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don’t think I’ll have the time to do it. So it’ll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome.

Theroux cites his reluctance to direct the film due to his constantly hectic schedule, especially considering he is now the lead actor on one of HBO’s newest series, The Leftovers.

Fortunately, though, Stiller does most likely have the time. After finishing the arduous task of filming The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and with Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hitting theaters on December 19, it appears as if Stiller’s schedule has opened up just enough for him to squeeze Zoolander in.

And, at last, we might finally know whether there is anything more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.
