Web professionals move pretty fast. The entire world is available 24-7 at the click of a mouse. Naturally, completely disconnecting on vacation would be a challenge but the best way to be provided with enough stimuli to do just that is on a cruise. With endless amounts of on-board activities and opportunities to visit different travel destinations, a cruise is the perfect solution for the adventure seeking, intellectually charged Web professional.
Disconnecting from the Internet sometimes is necessary for health. According to eMarketer, adults in the United States spend more time on digital devices than watching TV, and digital devices now get more than 5 hours a day from the average American.
Working at a computer is obviously bad for you, causing issues like eye strain, back problems, emotional pressure, anxiety, depression, and other ailments.
According to research, people act differently on Facebook because they know they’re being watched. Locals in Fiji spend 15 hours a day socializing with each other- free of digital distractions. Megan Snedden talked about this in a piece for the International Business Times earlier this year, recounting her experience with a “digital detox”. It helped her “reconnect with reality.”
If you don’t want to hop on a plane to Fiji, you might simply consider going on a cruise, where you can enjoy various locations without having to keep packing and unpacking.
Holiday Cruise Line thinks cruises are an ideal way to unplug for a while.
“Your mental health is imperative, and using a vacation, especially a cruise to relax, wind down, and recharge your internal batteries is a great way to stay healthy,” a Holiday Cruise Line representative says. “If you do a quick search for information about how vacations can impact an individual’s happiness, there’s a lot of information out there.”
“Some articles even talk about how a vacation can help students score better on tests and perform better going into the school year because they’ve been taken out of their comfort zone, experience new things and places, and have grown personally as result of a vacation,” they add. “They reduce stress almost immediately. As soon as you get on a cruise, you feel the water beneath you gently rocking your entire ship, there’s not doubt that you’ll start feeling more relaxed and centered. You and your entire family will have an opportunity to come together, leave the hustle and bustle of daily life behind you, and allow you to make an immediate change in your attitude for the better.”
A lot of cruises offer activities that directly contribute to health and well-being, such as yoga classes, fitness classes, gyms, etc. They also, according to the representative, “almost always have great healthy food options.”
Ultimately, it’s going to be up to the customer to put down their electronics and relax, but that shouldn’t be too hard to do on a cruise. If it is…what’s the matter with you?
