Rumors of Gina Carano making an MMA comeback to the UFC have been swirling for months. However, Dana White recently revealed that, although it is complicated, he is getting “close” to signing a deal with Carano.

White has been seeking out Carano in hopes of having her sign a contract so that she could fight against the current women’s bantam weight champion Ronda Rousey.

“Yeah it’s complicated, but I think we’re close,” White said of the possible deal with Carano. “I think we’re close.”

The last time Carano fought in MMA was when she was a part of Strikeforce five years ago. Since then, she has stepped away from fighting to take on a career as an actress in Hollywood.

Carano has made it known that she has contemplated making a return to fighting, but she and White have not come to terms on a deal. White said that he will know more about the situation next month, and for now, the talk of a fight between Carano and Rousey, is on hold.

“I had plans, but now I don’t know. We have to see how this thing plays out,” White said. “I wouldn’t know more about that until September. First week of September I should have more answers.”

Although White feels that the Carano vs. Rousey fight would be the ultimate women’s fight, Rousey thinks that it is the worst style match-up ever.

“Ever since the beginning I have been positive that Gina is the worst style match-up for me,” Rousey said. “Even in the feeling of distance and timing, that stuff doesn’t go away if you take time off. Those things are always with you like a bicycle.”

“Gina’s not going to start training when the fight is announced. She’s already been training for months,” Ronda added. “I think she started quite a while ago and she only has me in mind. I expect that she’s going to be extremely prepared and a very dangerous opponent despite what other people might speculate.”
