The Mega Millions lottery is still over the $100 million mark. There was no winner again on Tuesday night, for the 11th time in a row, which means Friday’s jackpot is worth a cool $120 million. The cash option is currently estimated at $70 million. It will be the fourth time this year that the Mega Millions jackpot is at least $120 million.
Obviously players looking to get lucky want a chance to cash in on their dream. On Tuesday 24,034,367 tickets were sold, the second highest for a drawing in 2014.
Although no one took home the monster cash on Tuesday, one lucky player from Washington state matched the first five numbers, but not the Mega Ball, which earned the ticket buyer $1 million. Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 3, 16, 52, 54, 61. The Mega Ball number was 6.
In order for a person to win the jackpot, they have to match all six numbers. The first five numbers, which range from 1 to 75, plus the Mega Ball number, which ranges from 1 to 15. The odds of winning the big money are 1 in 259 million.
Each time a drawing fails to produce a jackpot winner, at least $5 million is added to the subsequent drawing. Mega Millions drawings run every Tuesday and Friday night at 11 pm ET.
The biggest ever Mega Millions payday came on March 30, 2012. The jackpot swelled to a whopping $656 million. The kitty wound up being chopped three ways by winners from Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland.
