Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio stole our hearts with Titanic; as Rose and Jack, they made us all forget for a moment that their love wasn’t meant to be as we rooted for them against the villainous Billy Zane. Because they were so believable as a couple in love, fans have been disappointed over the years that they never ended up together. But, as Winslet says, their valuable friendship wouldn’t have allowed it to happen.

“I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any romantic thing. It’s so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually we never did. He always saw me as one of the boys; I’ve never really been a girly-girl. We needed each other to lean on because we were very young and working all kinds of crazy bloody hours and it was a shock to the system,” she told Marie Claire UK.

Leo was on hand when Winslet married Ned Rocknroll in 2012 and actually gave her away during the ceremony. The actress made headlines with the marriage, and then again when she had the couple’s first child together and announced his name: Bear Blaze. Winslet said the name Bear came from a close friend, but Blaze was born out of the way she and Ned met.

“He [my friend] was very much a bear, he was everybody’s shoulder to cry on, he was a big bear hug. He was just this great figure in my life…When I was pregnant with Mia and I was pregnant with Joe, I didn’t name them before they came out because I always felt like I just have to see them and see who they’re going to be, but of course this time around, there’s Mia and Joe and the whole pregnancy’s about what are we going to call the baby. They were very much included, and we settled on Bear quite early on. Bear’s second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire [while vacationing at Richard Branson’s Caribbean home] basically. The house burnt down and we survived, but we wanted something of the fire, and so Blaze was the name that we came up with,” she told Ellen DeGeneres.
