Comedian Hannibal Buress is facing quite a bit of backlash after referring to Bill Cosby as a “rapist” during a stand-up routine in Cosby’s hometown of Philadelphia.

During his late night show at the Trocadero in Philadelphia last week, Buress went on a rather lengthy rant about the legendary comedian. Not only does Buress call out Cosby’s perceived self-righteousness, he also calls him out for his checkered past concerning sexual assault.

Check out Hannibal Buress’s comments on Bill Cosby below:

Bill Cosby has the f***ing smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. ‘Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the ’80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom.’ Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby. So, brings you down a couple notches. ‘I don’t curse on stage.’ Well, yeah, you’re a rapist, so… I’ve done this bit on stage, and people don’t believe. People think I’m making it up… That s**t is upsetting. If you didn’t know about it, trust me. You leave here and Google ‘Bill Cosby rape.’ It’s not funny. That s**t has more results than Hannibal Buress.

Buress referring to Cosby as a rapist has led to a lot of outrage on social media sites, especially Twitter, where some people are calling for Buress’s head:

Others have been quick come to Buress’s defense and say that people are mad at the wrong person:

After Buress’s comments about Cosby started making waves around the web, he posted the following comment on Twitter:

Unfortunately, where there’s smoke there is fire in Bill Cosby’s case. According to Mic, Cosby has been accused of rape by 13 different women. Even though Cosby hasn’t been convicted of anything, he did settle a lawsuit brought forth by an alleged victim in 2006.

Cosby has not commented on Buress’s rape accusations thus far.
