Hollywood heavy hitter and Broadway sensation Hugh Jackman is urging everyone to wear sunscreen and get tested for skin cancer.
Jackman has been treated for basal cell carcinoma three times now, first back in November last year, then again in may of this year. Recently, he went in for a third treatment.
Back in May, Jackman told E! News about his condition.
“So just to be clear, it is skin cancer—it’s a basal cell carcinoma, which of all the skin cancers, is the most minor.” Still, Jackman knows it is nothing to be cavalier about. “But you do need to take care of it immediately,” he said, “because it’s growing.”
This type of skin cancer is usually easily treatable, provided it is caught early. Jackman’s rep confirms that he is “all good now”. But, Jackman encourages a two-pronged attack: prevention and testing.
“It doesn’t matter who you are,” he urges, “get checkups.”
“I’m realistic about the future and it’s more than likely that I’ll have at least one more but probably many more, which is not uncommon for an Aussie particularly from English stock growing up in Australia where I don’t remember ever being told to put sunscreen on,” he further said. “But the beauty of this is it’s all preventable, it’s just about getting proper check-ups. I can be typical man, a little lazy, I couldn’t be bothered and now I’m not lazy at all.”
Speaking of sunscreen, that’s where the prevention angle comes in. After his second round of treatment, he posted a warning to Instagram.
