Being compared to your ex-husband’s new, younger girlfriend may not be the best compliment a woman can receive. Nonetheless, it happened this week when Dylan Penn, daughter of Sean Penn and Robin Wright, spoke to US Weekly about her mother and Charlize Theron, Penn’s girlfriend since early this year.

Dylan, a 23-year-old model and actress, said that she approves of Theron.

“She’s awesome,” Dylan said. “They’ve been away for months working together in South Africa, so I haven’t seen much of either of them. She’s great and they’re amazing together. As long as my dad’s happy, I’m happy for both of them.”

Dylan described Theron as “brilliant” and a “powerhouse.” Then she went on to compare Theron, 39, to her mother.

“She’s the only woman since my mom [Robin Wright] who can shut my dad up. The only woman! That is a f—ing challenge.”

Wright and Penn were married in 1996. Between then and 2010 they separated and reconciled twice until the divorce was finalized on July 22, 2010 when they reached a private agreement on child and spousal support, division of assets, and custody of their second child, Hopper, who was almost 17 at the time.

Upon the finalization of their divorce, Wright said that she was happy.

“I know what I don’t want,”
 she told More magazine.”There’s no limbo anymore. There’s no time. I’m too old for this shit.”

Before Wright, Penn was engaged to actress Elizabeth McGovern. He then married pop singer Madonna in 1985, a relationship that was marred by violent outbursts against the press and a felony domestic abuse assault charge against Penn, which he pleaded down to a misdemeanor. Penn and Madonna were divorced in 1989.

However, Theron seems to “revitalize” Penn, according to a source that told US that they see marriage in Penn and Theron’s future, along with children.

As for Wright, she began dating actor Ben Foster in early 2012. They two became engaged in January of this year.
