A stroke can come out of nowhere and be life threatening. While there is no way to prevent a stroke completely, there are ways you can reduce your chances of having one.

If you or someone you know is worried about having a stroke, consider these tips to improve your health and lifestyle and help prevent a stroke.

Healthy Diet
One of the most important things you can do to prevent a stroke is to eat a healthy diet. A healthy diet will fight high cholesterol and reduce your chances of a clogged artery. Make sure you are eating a lot of high fiber foods and avoid consuming too much sodium, as it can cause high blood pressure, which can lead to a stroke.

Exercise Regularly
Exercising regularly can help reduce your chances of a stroke. Exercise can help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. The Surgeon General suggests that adults exercise for at least two hours and 30 minutes every week and children should exercise for at least an hour.

Don’t Smoke Or Drink Alcohol
Drinking alcohol and smoking can greatly increase your risk of a stroke. If you are currently indulging in either of these bad habits you should stop as soon as possible. If you need help with your addiction, talk to your doctor about your options. Both smoking and drinking can lead to high blood pressure and can cause a number of other problems.

The healthier you are, the lower your risk of suffering from a stroke. If you are concerned about your health, talk with your doctor about other ways you can lower your risk of a stroke.
