Kirstin Cavallari dished recently about her time on the hit reality TV show Laguna Beach, and admitted that she felt very used by MTV. During a promo for an upcoming episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now? she accuses MTV producers of manipulating her personal life–all for the sake of TV drama.

“You know, Laguna Beach was tough because I felt very used and manipulated,” she says. “Basically, my boyfriend at the time [Stephen Colletti]–producers would have him go and take out Lauren Conrad–take her to dinner, bring her flowers, which never would have happened if it wasn’t for the show, for MTV.”

Laguna Beach followed the lives of an affluent group of teens living in Laguna Beach, California. The show ran for three years. One of the biggest plot points of the show was the love triangle between Kristin Cavallari, her boyfriend Stephen Colletti, and Lauren Conrad. Conrad, or “LC” as she was known on Laguna Hills, was typically portrayed as the good girl while Cavallari was always more outspoken.

“Being 16, 17 in high school, not really knowing how to handle your emotions, or even realizing what’s going on, you know, I put up a wall,” Kristin says about her villain reputation. “And I really put up a tough exterior because I felt like they were really trying to take advantage of me, and it was a really difficult time for me, so when I saw it on air, and saw how they represented me, I was really, really upset.”

“I cried for hours and hours and hours after I saw the first episode,” she admits.

Kristin Cavallari says she was so traumatized by her time on Laguna Hills, that she believes those appearing on reality shows should be required to be at least 18 years old in order to be part of the cast.

The traumatic experience didn’t stop Cavallari from playing the villain again on The Hills after Conrad left the Laguna Beach spin-off.

Fortunately the kids of Laguna Beach are all grown-up these days. Kristin Cavallari married to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler back in June of 2013. They have two sons, Camden Jack, two, and Jaxon Wyatt, who was born in May.

Kristin Cavallari’s former nemesis, Lauren Conrad, is also obviously well past the Laguna Beach love triangle, too. She married lawyer William Tell in September.

How do you expect MTV will react when they learn Kristin felt used by them during her days as a reality star?
