Krysten Ritter has made a name for herself over the past few years with roles in AMC’s Breaking Bad and CW’s Veronica Mars. Now the actress is entering the world of online programming with Netflix’ and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.
Ritter will star as the lead in A.K.A. Jessica Jones in a 13 episode series that will debut on Netflix next year. The series is based on a character that showed up in Marvel’s ALIAS comic book. The story goes that our titular hero – Jessica Jones – loses her powers and turns toward a career as a detective investigating cases involving super powers. It’s the kind of story that’s definitely better suited for television and Marvel thinks that Ritter will be the perfect vehicle to bring the Jones’ story to the small screen.
“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is just one of many Marvel TV shows that will be hitting Netflix in the coming year. The first, a series based on Daredevil, is already filming with series based on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The four TV series will come together in a separate TV series called The Defenders that’s looking to capitalize on Marvel’s success with The Avengers.
Ritter will make her debut as Jessica Jones at some point in 2015.
