Sasha Alexander, Angie Harmon: Rizzoli & Isles Renewed

Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon will be back for a new season of Rizzoli & Isles next summer. The TNT drama may have been the last of the network’s shows to get picked back up, but it scored 18 episodes nonetheless.

Even though Rizzoli & Isles was the last to get signed to an extension, that was only because of license fee and size negotiations. The show was the most watched basic cable series of summer 2014 with 7.6 million viewers. It is based on characters that were created by best-selling crime novelist Tess Gerritsen and developed for television by creator Janet Tamaro. It stars Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a street savvy Boston police detective, and Sasha Alexander as Maura Isles, an intelligent medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite the two women being being complete opposites, they share an offbeat chemistry, a true friendship and an unusual working relationship that helps them solve some pretty complex murder mysteries in Boston. Rizzoli & Isles also stars Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, Idara Victor, and Lorraine Bracco. Bill Haber and showrunner Jan Nash serve are the show’s executive producers.

Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon negotiated their increased salaries for the new season of Rizzoli & Isles together, and some think that may have added to the delay in the signed renewal contract. There is some speculation that a two-year agreement may have been signed rather than just a one-year renewal.

Are you a Rizzoli & Isles fan? Are you among those who wish next summer would get here quicker so Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander could resume their roles as Jane and Maura, and entertain fans with their sleuthing once more?
