Lindsay Lohan has a long road ahead of her as she recovers from Chikungunya, a rare tropical virus that she contracted during a trip to Bora Bora last month.

Lindsay Lohan was released from a London hospital this week after being treated for Chikungunya, which is spread through mosquito bites and can cause rashes, fatigue, nausea, headaches, muscle pain, fevers and severe joint paint.

Recovery from the virus can take months.

“The doctors told her it could take six months to a year for the virus to clear up. She has good days and bad. Right now, she’s not doing so well,” a source to E! News.

TMZ was the first to report that Lindsay Lohan was hospitalized this week.

Lindsay Lohan was released from the hospital on Wednesday and back to doing her day to day activities, which includes some community service with CVS Positive Furtures, a youth-volunteer non-profit. She is currently living in England while performing onstage in Speed-the-Plow.

Still with chikungunya but feeling better on and off @patrickaufdenkamp @oprah thank you for your call #beherenow
