Kate Winslet says that she wouldn’t change a thing about her past, including a divorce that she says taught her children about the difficulties of life.

“I think it’s very important to teach your children to struggle on some level,” Kate Winslet told Harper’s Bazaar UK for the March edition. “I would honestly say that I wouldn’t change a thing. Even all the bad bits. They all matter, because those things shape who you are. And if you don’t like who you are, well, then you’re f****d really, aren’t you?”

Kate Winslet is currently married to Ned RocknRoll and has a one-year-old son, Bear Blaze, as well as two children from a previous marriage — Mia, 14, and Joe, 11.

With her busy life, the Oscar-winning actress said she has her priorities and worrying about her weight is not one of them.

“Life is just too short to be spending time focusing on things like that. I want to keep my health and my sanity and be well-fed and happy. I was nowhere near my pre-pregnancy shape when Bear was 12 weeks old — I was breastfeeding, apart from anything else, and hungry all the time — and nor would I have wanted to be,” she said. “And, do you know what? My body will never go back to what it was, and I wouldn’t expect it to after three babies.”

At 39, Kate Winslet said she prefers to encourage women to have more realistic expectations of their bodies, especially after having children, and urges them to embrace their position in life.

“What is so gorgeous about being the age I am is that all the ridiculous angst I might once have felt about having a bit of cellulite, or being a bit puffy in the face, or whatever, has evaporated,” she said. “I simply can’t believe I ever spent any time wasting my life on that nonsense.”

“There’s a big part of me – now, more than ever before – that feels a sense of responsibility for how other women view themselves,” said Kate Winslet.

“Take having the baby, for instance. Have I actively been on a diet to lose my baby weight? No, I haven’t. I genuinely bloody haven’t.

“I so didn’t want to be one of those, ‘Oh, wow, she’s back in shape after 12 weeks’ women. When I read things like that, I just think, ‘Oh, for f**k’s sake, that’s actually impossible.’ “
