Bill Cosby is set to perform in Boston on Sunday, and is well aware that protestors will try to influence those attending his show. In an act of what certainly appears as defiance, the 77-year-old comedian and star of The Cosby Show has issued a statement to the media.

“Dear Fans: GOD has Blessed me with a wonderful gift to share with all of you,” Cosby said in a statement released to the Boston Herald. “For 53 years I have continued to master this gift, which heals the soul and warms hearts. Laughter! I thank you, the theatre staff (Wilbur Theatre), the event organizers and the Boston Community for your continued support and coming to experience family, fun entertainment. Hey, Hey, Hey — I’m Far From Finished.”

Bill Cosby has, as practically everyone knows by know, been accused by dozens of women of sexual abuse. Some of his scheduled performances around the country have been cancelled as a result. The Wilbur Theatre in Boston tried to cancel, but had to honor their commitment for two of the nine shows they contracted for. They have offered ticket holders a refund if they decide not to attend. This leaves not just the Wilbur Theatre, but many other venues who contracted with Bill Cosby, in a very difficult spot.

Bill Blumenreich owns the Wilbur Theatre.

“I’m stuck in the middle of this,” he said. “I tried to cancel all the shows, but I had a contract with the guy and, for these two shows, he’s holding me to the contract.”

“I can’t wait for Sunday to be over,” he added. “I’m done with it.”

Attorney and victims advocate Wendy Murphy is disgusted with the statement Bill Cosby issued.

“It’s one thing to have a tin ear for public sentiment. This guy has a tin soul,” she told the Boston Herald.
