Everyone’s getting in on the messaging craze, even Pandora internet radio.
Have you ever wanted Lenny Kravitz to send you a message, just before you listen to one of his songs, explaining his thoughts behind said song?
That’s now a possibility, thanks to Pandora’s new Artist Audio Messaging feature.
Pandora is now letting artists (a select few for now, as this is in it’s test phase) send personalized messages to their listeners through Pandora. According to Pandora, these messages could be tour announcements, news about a new album, or song-specific descriptions.
“Since I founded Pandora, we’ve been dedicated to helping listeners effortlessly discover and enjoy music they love. But all along, we’ve envisioned a time when the power of the platform could be put in the hands of the artists. That chapter has now begun,” says Pandora founder Tim Westergren.
“We’re constantly working with music makers to collaborate on new and innovative ideas that will bring our more than 80 million listeners and the artists on Pandora closer than ever before. Artist Audio Messaging is something we are very excited about, and I can’t wait to watch this evolve as we collaborate ever more closely with artists.”
Back in October, Pandora unveiled analytics for its musicians, a new service called the Artists Marketing Platform (AMP). The AMP offers musicians analytics like total track plays, number of thumbs up, number of total stations added, total listener counts – all sorted by various time frames and locations.
“This platform will allow them to build a patronage,” Westergren said in an interview with Re/code. “An audience of patrons for them.”
Expect limited messaging to begin appearing soon, with Pandora expanding the pilot program slowly.
