Amanda Bynes is reportedly doing much better these days, but the actress will still have to wait a few months before she’s able to make decisions on her own regarding her welfare and finances.

Bynes will reportedly not face charges for her September DUI arrest, but a judge has ruled that her parents will still hold a conservatorship over her until at least June, when there will be another hearing. A source close to her family told ABC News that she is on the road to recovery, however, after a string of troubling incidents that go back nearly two years.

“She has her own apartment and is much happier. She and her parents are getting along and Amanda is clear-headed, more focused and has more independence,” the source said.

Bynes was hospitalized last year after she reportedly set a fire in a California driveway; the incident followed several run-ins with the law and bizarre behavior which was closely monitored by the media. Amanda also kept up a Twitter feed that was full of rants about her father and other celebrities. Although she had lucid moments where she claimed to feel better, there were many reports at varied times regarding strange behavior in public, including when she had Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant in Hollywood.

“She kept apologizing when ordering her food, thinking it was a lot for one person to consume. She kept saying, ‘Sorry, I know I probably look like a fat a** because I’m ordering all this food, but I promise I’m not. I just don’t want anyone to see me ordering all this food because of all this weight I just lost. I don’t want people to think badly of me,’” the waitress told Access Hollywood.

Bynes is reportedly living alone at the moment, although it’s not clear if she has plans to return to school anytime soon. Reports came in last year that she was kicked out of a school for fashion design for allegedly cheating on a test.
