With the big news that Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt will indeed be doing a Ghostbusters film, questions are starting to pop up.
The whole thing is part of something call Ghost Corps, run by Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd. We already know that Paul Feig is doing a film with female Ghostbusters. So where does the Tatum-Pratt film fit?
Badass Digest did some more digging. The answers are better than you could have imagined.
“The plan is to have this new Ghostbusters universe feel big and have the kind of tonal variety that allows there to be a legitimate shared universe, not just a whole bunch of franchises running in tandem. What’s more, the hope is that after Feig’s Ghostbusters is out and after Tatum’s Ghostsbusters is out the next film will see the two teams co-mingling, Avengers-style. This is planned out, and has been getting planned out for some time – it’s not a sudden change of heart at Sony.”
So now we’re looking at the planning of three Ghostbusters films: Feig’s female cast, the Tatum-Pratt film, and a combo.
But the word out of Sony is that there is a fourth already on the drawing board. This one will be a prequel of some sort. No one is talking about when it is set, but it could be even before the time period of the original Ghostbusters film.
In fact, the idea of crossovers into other universes is a very real possibility.
“‘Ghostbusters’ is going to be the catch-all umbrella for a world of supernatural FX comedies.”
A few months back, Gillian Anderson did a Reddit AMA in which she expressed avid interest in being in Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters.
“OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit!”
That does not appear to have materialized. But wait.
Someone in the Reddit AMA floated the idea that there could be crossover potential between the X-files universe and Ghostbusters. Gillian Anderson responded:
“It would be kind of cool if she got to play Dana Scully in an alternate reality where she was forced out of the FBI for her work in the X-Files and ended up as a ghostbuster struggling to make ends meet.”
Since we now know that there are plans for future X-files material involving Anderson and David Duchovny, maybe a real crossover move is more possible than it was even just a few months ago.
