Kelly Ripa made news last week when word that she and Regis Philbin hadn’t spoken since he left their talk show in 2011 hit the media. This week she’s making news again, and she may go down in history for giving her husband Mark Consuelos the most thoughtful birthday gift ever.

It’s no secret that Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are well off. Each could likely afford to give the other just about anything imaginable. That’s what makes Kelly’s gift even more thoughtful.

Mark Consuelos turned 44 on Tuesday. That’s when Kelly Ripa told him she’d give him his gift when she got home later in the day. He assumed that meant they were heading off to a hotel.

When she got home and led her husband outside, he figured she was giving him a car.

“I’m like, ‘Oh no! He thinks it’s something amazing!'” Kelly Ripa said.

At one point, as the two headed down Fifth Avenue, he feared she had arranged for a flash mob to laud him on his big day.

“My worst nightmare!” he said

“I’m like, ‘Stop saying elaborate things, because now my very sweet gift that’s very sweet and from the kids and from the heart is going to seem really small!'” Kelly said.

Before long the couple reached Central Park–and a bench in the park, decorated with balloons.

Kelly Ripa and their children had a plaque inscribed on a bench for Mark Consuelos.

“Daddy Cool,” the plaque reads. That’s Kelly Ripa’s nickname for her husband.

“You’re the most thoughtful, the best gift giver of all time,” he told his wife, as he sat in for Michael Strahan on Live! With Kelly and Michael.

You’ve got to admit, that’s pretty thoughtful and creative, too.
