Nina Dobrev announced this week that she is leaving The Vampire Diaries at the end of the current season, leading media outlets to speculate that the actress is departing because of tension on the set of the popular series after the former couple broke up after a six-year romantic relationship and Somerhalder became engaged to Nikki Reed.

However, if Ian Somerhalder’s reaction to an article posted by E! Online, then, according to his point of view, there is no other reason that Nina Dobrev is leaving than what she has said herself in a heartfelt farewell she posted on Instagram.

“I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May,” she wrote.

Dearest TVD Family, I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. As for Ian Somerhalder, he apparently wants to go on the record with his Twitter followers that Nina’s exit from The Vampire Diaries has nothing to do with him. On Friday, Ian shared an article on his Twitter page from E! Online that talks about the rumors and refutes them, leading the normally tight-lipped actor, at least on the topic of his relationship with Nina Dobrev, to publicly praise the site.
