Twitter is giving the developers the ability to add tweet timelines and guest authentication to their apps using Twitter Kit on Fabric. The former, ti says, will help devs bring more engaging stories into their apps, and the latter is for building rich logged out experiences (as Twitter itself has just done with its new homepage).

Twitter launched Fabric at its Flight developer conference in October. It’s the company’s mobile app platform, which consists of three modular kits: The Twitter Kit for distribution, the Crashlytics Kit for stability, and the MoPub Kit for ads. Since launch, Twitter says it’s seen many developers use Tweet embeds with Twitter Kit, and that they’re often themed to the apps, and crafted into listt format with multiple tweets. The new timeline offering is aimed at making this easier (both on iOS and Android).

With user timelines, developers can integrate tweets from any Twitter account into their service with just a few lines of code. Search timelines let them automatically display results baed on key words relevant to the app’s experience.

“Just like Tweet embeds, the background and text colors are easily customizable, so your timelines blend perfectly into your app’s design,” says product manager Michael Ducker in a blog post. “Another customer, Regal Cinemas, is using a themed search timeline to automatically pull reviews so their users can discover movies.”

“Of course, we want to see all of your users benefit from seeing these rich timelines, not just those who are logged in to Twitter,” says Ducker. “So today, we’re also launching guest authentication, built into timelines. It will let your app access content from Twitter’s API without needing a user context. With minimal effort, you can now integrate relevant, real-time content within your app to engage users – without having to ask them to log in with Twitter.”

To utilize these tools, you’ll need Twitter Kit, and to get that, you’ll need to download Fabric. Those already using Fabric can see documentation for tweet timelines for Android here and for iOS here. Documentation for guest authentication for Android is here and for iOS is here.
