Sofia Vergara has released a statement this week following a lawsuit filed by her ex, disputing his claims that she wanted to destroy two frozen embryos the couple created together.

Vergara and Nick Loeb reportedly created two female embryos in November of 2013 and signed an agreement saying that neither of them would take any action unless they both consented to it. However, now that they aren’t together anymore, Loeb says he wants to fulfill his dream of being a father even if Vergara doesn’t want to be involved. Loeb’s lawyers say he tried to come to an agreement with Vergara and was unable to, which prompted the suit alleging she said she wanted to destroy the embryos.

“I have always strongly believed that life begins at fertilization and that every embryo is a life on a journey towards birth. I created these two female embryos with the purpose of taking them to term and not destruction, because I have always dreamed of being a father,” Loeb said.

Vergara, who is now engaged to actor Joe Manganiello, released a statement through her attorneys saying she just wants to keep the embryos frozen so that she can move on with her life.

“Vergara has never suggested that she wished to have the embryos destroyed. She has always maintained that they be kept frozen, a fact of which Loeb and his counsel have always been aware, despite Loeb’s statements to the contrary. Vergara, who has happily moved on with her life, is content to leave the embryos frozen indefinitely as she has no desire to have children with her ex, which should be understandable given the circumstances,” the statement read.

Vergara has at least one supporter in her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen, who spoke out about the situation recently in defense of her friend.

“She is one of the kindest, best people I know. I am so sad that on the eve of all of her great happiness that had to happen, but at the same time, I know that she will be perfectly fine. She is a wonderful person. She’s such a good person.”
