Where I live, it’s a gorgeous day outside. I don’t know what the weather’s like where you live, but if it’s cloudy, rainy, or even remotely cold – I’d suggest a Netflix marathon.

The entire first season of The X-Files is now streaming in HD widescreen.

The show originally aired in 4:3, but as creator Chris Carter pointed out in a reddit AMA last year, they “considered HD all along.”

“I’m imagining that they’ll be released in 4:3. When we began filming the show in 1992, we actually (except for maybe the pilot) considered HD all along. And so there was image and opportunity to expand and modify the aspect ratio. But the fact is these are all decisions made by 20th Century Fox, which I’m occasionally consulted on,” he said in responses to a question about a blu-ray release.

Netflix hasn’t made any sort of announcement about the remasters, and my repeated attempts to find out the company’s re-uploading schedule have gone unanswered.

The process began just last week, and by Friday the first 13 episodes of the first season were streaming in their new aspect ratio. As of today, all episodes of season one are updated – but Netflix has yet to get to work on season two.

4:3 to 16:9 remasters haven’t always been universally welcomed, but these updates should leave fans salivating.
