Harley Quinn is, strangely enough, one of the most well-known and loved female characters in the DC universe, so it was big news when Suicide Squad was given the green light.

And if the photo posted by director David Ayer on Twitter is anything to go by, Margot Robbie was able to capture the essence of Joker’s girlfriend.

In looks, at least.

The photo was captioned “Task Force X assembled and ready. #SuicideSquad.”

It also showed the rest of the team which included Adam Beach as Slipknot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang , Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and Will Smith as Deadshot.

The Suicide Squad director opted not to give these super villains drastic make-overs. But Robbie’s Harley Quinn is a perfect foil to Jared Leto’s Joker.

For those who didn’t grow up watching Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn is an original character created for that show. Her popularity in the series led to her being included in the DC comics universe in 1999.

Also known as Harleen Quinzel, she’s a psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and becomes his henchwoman/ partner.

In some stills from the movie’s Toronto set, the Australian actress seems to be channeling her inner Harley Quinn perfectly. Sporting tattoos and pink and blue pigtails, Robbie looked totally badass.

The super villain looked incredibly hot in her red and blue sequined hot pants, a figure hugging shirt with the words “Daddy’s Little Monster” emblazoned on it and a jacket that reads “Property of Joker.”

A chunky gold choker, scarlet lips, baseball bat and a pistol in an underarm holster completed her look.

Suicide Squad revolves around a group of super villains who are offered freedom by the government if they undertake a deadly black ops mission.

The movie is slated for release this August.
