George Zimmerman was shot in the face today following a road rage altercation in Florida… At least that’s that you would be telling your friends if you did not stop to read beyond the headlines posted on Facebook.

Social media grabbed the George Zimmerman news with unmitigated glee today. Like a modern-day game of Telephone, the news that the man who many feel was wrongfully acquitted in the killing of Trayvon Martin seemed to have gotten a bit of comeuppance. News articles with headlines like “George Zimmerman Shot in Face in Lake Mary” were Shared repeatedly.

But by early evening today, clicking on these article links took you to pages with different headlines:

“Police: George Zimmerman shot at in road rage incident with man he knew”

The upshot of the story is that George Zimmerman and Matthew Apperson were involved in a road rage incident … again. Remember the guy that George Zimmerman (allegedly) yelled at: “Do you know who I am?! I will fucking kill you!”

That guy. It sounds like this time Matthew Apperson may have taken aim himself.

“His injuries would be considered minor,” George Zimmerman’s attorney Don West said. “The bullet missed his head. I think it broke a window and lodged in his vehicle.”
