Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together for many, many years and have been very vocal about their contention that a piece of paper is not necessary to define their relationship.

Goldie Hawn, 69, discussed that belief once again in a recent interview with Porter magazine.

Goldie Hawn has been with Kurt Russell, 64, since 1983. The twosome began their lasting relationship after Kurt Russell divorce from wife Season Hubley.

“A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage,” Goldie Hawn said. “It’s about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work. If one person does not want it to work, it isn’t going to work.”

“It’s also about not losing yourself in each other,” she continued of how she and Kurt Russell make it work. “Being together, two pillars holding up the house and the roof, and being different, not having to agree on everything, learning how to deal with not agreeing. Everything’s a choice.”

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have known each other since they were kids, when they starred in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1968. They later starred in Swing Shift and it was about this time, they began a love affair that has outlasted many other Hollywood couples.

Goldie Hawn was previously married to Bill Hudson, and has two children with him, Oliver and Kate Hudson.

Goldie Hawn most recently appeared in The Banger Sisters with Susan Sarandon in 2002.

Meanwhile, Kurt Russell starred as Mr. Nobody in Furious 7 and is set to star in the new Quentin Tarantino film The Hateful Eight and Deepwater Horizon, which chronicles the BP oil spill.
