The Rock is cookin’, and not everybody is keen on the smell.

When the pro wrestler-turned-actor announced that he will produce and star in a 21st-century remake of Big Trouble in Little China, the reaction from the public was mixed, to say the least.

God forbid they try a remake of ‘Big Trouble In Little China’ the bastards!!

If they decide to remake Big Trouble In Little China I’m gonna get so pissed.

The Rock jumped to his production’s defense, while trying to win over fans at the same time.

“I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized – I’m the same way.” Johnson told reporters. “My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter.”

You heard that right, Johnson wants to have original director John Carpenter involved in the Big Trouble Remake in some capacity. He has also said he wants Kurt Russell on board. How that would work is anyone’s guess.

Johnson further positioned himself as a fan by saying, “I loved the original when I was younger and I loved the main character – all the characters.”

While Johnson plans to fill the role of Jack Burton, originally played by Kurt Russell, himself, some social media commenters have other ideas.

“It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity,” Johnson also said. “If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good.”
