Demi Lovato is receiving comfort from boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama in the wake of a tragedy that claimed the life of her beloved dog Buddy. Buddy was killed in an accident last Sunday.

It was Tuesday when Demi Lovato shared word of her loss with her followers on Twitter.

We are absolutely heartbroken to be writing this but Wilmer and I are devastated to inform you that we lost (cont) http://t.co/klsxXrXVFD

The “Cool for the Summer” singer received Buddy as a gift at Christmas last year. He even had his own Instagram account that Demi Lovato called Demi’s Buddy (@demisbuddy).

It was only a week ago that the singer shared this adorable photo of herself with the adorable pooch.

Pets are way more than just furry friends. They become indelible parts of our families and our lives. When they pass away, people mourn their deaths much in the same way we mourn our human loved ones.

Demi Lovato is surely heartbroken right now, as is Wilmer Valderrama. Hopefully they take solace in the wonderful life they no doubt afforded Buddy.

Getting on stage and performing will likely be difficult for Demi Lovato in the wake of this loss. She is a consummate professional, however, and will wow her fans in spite of her pain.
