Cilla Black, the beloved British singer and TV personality who died on Saturday at the age of 72, died of a stroke. She was sunbathing at her Spanish villa when she stood up and apparently lost her balance–fell, and hit her head. The head injury caused the stroke. According to the BBC, she didn’t suffer, but fell unconscious immediately.
Now that they have received the conclusive results from her autopsy, Cilla Black’s three sons have received permission to fly their mother’s body home to the UK.
“We are devastated by the sad loss of our mother, but have been deeply touched by all the kind messages of support from her friends, fans, the public and media,” Robert, Ben, and Jack Willis said in a statement to the press.
“We would like to thank everyone, especially the people of Liverpool. The tributes and condolences have really helped us through these difficult times. The Spanish authorities have now told us we are able to bring Mum home, which we hope to do as quickly as possible. We would also like to thank all those involved for their assistance with this matter. We respectfully request for our continued privacy to grieve.”
