Salma Hayek is one of Hollywood’s great beauties, and she’ll be the first one to tell you that her age has nothing to do with it.

The 48-year old actress spoke recently about what it’s like for a woman in the business–particularly, for a woman who doesn’t fit the typical Hollywood mold–and said that while the big studios aren’t calling as much, she doesn’t let it bother her.

“I think they don’t want me but I don’t really care,” Hayek said.

As with many actresses, Hayek has felt the mounting pressure from the showbiz world to look young, but for her, age is just a number. Salma says the last decade has been “full of life”, and while there’s an abundance of discrimination against women over 35 in Hollywood, Salma refuses to bow to it.

“No Botox yet, you can see…You don’t look as bad as you thought you were going to look. You don’t feel as old as you thought you were going to feel. It’s a myth. Forties are full of life. The only thing that is tough about the 40s is when you haven’t had a child. This is awful,” Hayek said.

Salma–who was born in Mexico–also spoke recently about discrimination of a different kind, saying she’s faced it so many times throughout her life that it was difficult to choose just one to talk about. In an interview with Huffington Post, Hayek recalled an incident at a movie theater in which a man told her and a friend to “go back to their country”.

“I have a whole book that I could write about these moments, that are very memorable. But I have to say they never really quite hurt me. I was like ‘Woah, you’re dumb, my goodness you are so ignorant.’ I sort of felt sorry for this person for just being so out of touch with the world, with his own humanity.”
