Jidenna, Janelle Monae’s fellow Wonderland Records artist, has been compared to singer Iggy Azalea since the release of his hit single “Classic Man.”
Music fans have noticed similarities between Jidenna’s single “Classic Man” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”
One fan asked whether Jidenna’s single took from Azalea’s “Fancy.” Azalea claimed that she earns from the records income, reports said.

Monae and Jidenna tried to clear up the issue when they sat down for a quick interview at Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning soon after the rumors began.
“Some of the people have said Iggy Azalea is getting paid off this record,” said Jidenna, disputing the rumors that Azalea gets a percentage of the track’s income.
The two artists go on to set the record straight, saying the reason Azalea was included in the credits was because of Robin Thicke’s copyright infringement lawsuit concerning the song “Blurred Lines.”
“The truth is, we actually didn’t sample it. But ever since the decision of Robin Thicke and Pharrell, we believe that it was important to make sure that we are safe.”
Jidenna’s song “Classic Man” is described as a fusion of different hip hop and pop musical influence. Even the song “Fancy” can be said to contain similar musical style. However, this does not necessarily mean one artist copied from the other as DJ Mustard also claimed “Classic Man” sounded similar to his song. DJ Mustard does not seem affected by the song similarities.
When the show’s host pointed out Azalea’s tendency to appropriate other culture’s music this is what Monae said: “She steal from us, we steal back.”
Well, there will always be issues of copying and stealing of musical style since the music industry is a big melting pot where cultures meet.
