Dixie Chicks singer Natlie Maines joined Taylor Swift onstage during a recent tour stop in L.A., and Taylor later said the moment meant a lot to her because of her childhood love of the band.

Maines sang the Chicks’ hit “Goodbye Earl” with Swift, who says she used to sing the group’s songs at every talent show when she was younger. Which just goes to show that even with all the fame and money in the world, sometimes a girl just gets starstruck.

“I used to sing Dixie Chicks songs at every talent show. Singing ‘Goodbye Earl’ with Natalie tonight was unbelievable,” Swift wrote on Twitter.

Swift also gave mad props to Natalie and the Dixie Chicks onstage, crediting them for letting her be herself.

“If not for this woman and her band, I would not have known that you can be quirky and fun and yourself and outspoken and brave and real. When I was 9 years old and got her first CD, I wouldn’t have dreamed the things I dreamed, and I wouldn’t be standing on this stage today,” Taylor said.

The Dixie Chicks star wasn’t the only guest to come out for a surprise; Ellen DeGeneres and Alanis Morissette made appearances as well. Morissette was there to do a duet on “You Outta Know”, and Taylor reportedly told the audience that Alanis inspired her songwriting, saying she penned the “greatest breakup song of all time”. That, coupled with the performance of “Goodbye Earl”, leave us wondering what Taylor is trying to say.

“I think it’s fair to say that so many of the female singer-songwriters of my generation, including myself, would not write the way that we do without her [Morissette] and her music. And she has written some of the most brilliant music—in particular probably inarguably the greatest breakup song of all-time,” Swift reportedly said to the crowd.
