Jessica Mendoza is replacing Curt Schilling, reporting baseball on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball for the remainder of the season. A two-time Olympic medalist and a Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, Jessica Mendoza is also a member of the International Latin Sports Hall of Fame. Fans might have missed hearing her as a baseball announcer, however, had it not been for Curt Schilling’s recent comparison of Muslims to Nazis, in a Tweet that got him suspended for the rest of the baseball season. Schillings defense of said Tweets didn’t help him out any either.

Jessica Mendoza actually went on to make history as a baseball reporter when she announced the Cardinals-Dodgers game on August 24th.

“I was nervous,” Jessica Mendozan said in a recent interview with the New York Times. “I definitely tried to prepare as if I’d done it a million times so it wouldn’t seem like anything unique. My heart was pumping in the first inning like it was in the first inning of an Olympic game. But after that first at-bat–boom! It felt comfortable.”

Curt Schilling was impressed enough to compliment his ESPN fill in.

“Jessica Mendoza is a pro, I don’t care that she got to hit a ball twice the size of ours,” he wrote. “She is likely the greatest hitter in the history of Womens Fastpitch.

Do you think ESPN will allow Curt Schilling to resume his position once his suspension has ended?

Is there any chance that Jessica Mendoza might become his permanent replacement?
