Alison Sweeney made news just a couple of weeks ago when NBC announced she and The Biggest Loser were parting ways. It still isn’t clear whether it was her idea or the network’s. On Tuesday, NBC announced that former trainer Bob Harper will replace Alison Sweeney starting this season as The Biggest Loser’s new host.

“I’m super excited about taking the position of host on The Biggest Loser,” Harper said. “I’ve been with the show since season one so I know all of the ins and outs, and let me tell you, the weigh-in room is going to be a completely different ballgame with me at the steering wheel.”

Bob Harper won’t be a full time trainer on the fitness series. However even in his new role as host, he will “continue to offer his training expertise to contestants at various points throughout the season,” NBC reports.

It wasn’t so long ago that Alison Sweeney announced she was leaving her longtime role as Sami Brady on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives. It was expected at that time that she would continue on with The Biggest Loser for a few more seasons. She is expected to show up back in Salem this fall, however, as Days celebrates its 50th year on TV.

Do you expect Alison Sweeney and The Biggest Loser producers hit some kind of contract snag? Or did one party or the other simply decide it was time to part ways?

Trainers Dolvett Quince and Jennifer Widerstrom will return as the show’s trainers this upcoming season, with each taking on a team of eight contestants looking to lose a considerable amount of weight.

Production for the upcoming season of The Biggest Loser begins later in September.

What’s your opinion of Bob Harper replacing Alison Sweeney as host of the show?
