The British funnyman released the trailer for his new documentary entitled, Brand: A Second Coming on Monday, in which he shared his profound experiences in Africa in 2010 as part of the Comic Relief charity.
In the film, Brand revealed that he stumbled upon an epiphany after the trip, and it was that he was “associated with the very thing I detest: vapid vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity,” referring to his marriage to pop star Perry.
Brand also intimated that he had confided in fellow comedian Stephen Merchant that he didn’t feel his marriage with Perry would last. “It’s definitely good I’m someone I love. But it’s not a resolution to anything spiritual,” Brand confessed. Another scene features a close friend of Brand’s, Oasis band member Noel Gallagher, sharing instances wherein the 40-year-old comedian would call him up to ask for marriage advice.
Meanwhile, Perry is reported to be feeling very upset, vulnerable, and embarrassed by her insulting portrayal in her ex-husband’s film. According to an insider that got in touch with Grazia magazine, “It hurts like hell for Katy to re-live her painful marriage like this.” Brand and Perry were married for less than two years before they divorced in 2012.
Their short-lived romance began after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, in which Perry threw a water bottle at Brand during rehearsal. They got married in October 2010 in a lavish Hindu ceremony in India that reportedly lasted for days. On December 30 the following year, Brand infamously informed Perry of his intention to divorce her through a text message.

Shortly after the divorce had been finalized, Perry talked about their failed marriage in her autobiographical documentary entitled, Katy Perry: Part of Me.
