Multi-awarded Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore recently shared a throwback photo on her Instagram account – a black-and-white picture of her and her mother Jaid – to celebrate the release of her new book.

The new book, entitled Wildflower, talks about Barrymore’s life events and stories that she has experienced along the way. The book shares lessons she has learned in her life with the intention of sharing with the readers how those lessons helped her become the person she is today.

Barrymore, 40, posted the image on Instagram and wrote a caption: “Today I wrote a book. And as I thank and celebrate many women this week, I must say a huge thank you to my mother. As I say in the acknowledgments, ‘thank you for my life. I am ever so pleased to be here!’ We have had quite a road, but it is paved with gratitude.”

In spite of the sweet gesture from the Charlie’s Angels star, Barrymore didn’t get to grow up like most people. She was emancipated at the age of 14, after her mother was denied legal custody of her.

Her father, John Drew Barrymore, never had a relationship with her.

However, reports said that the 50 First Dates actress is still taking care of her mom, who is now 69 years old.

The mother of two added that she sees to it that all of her mom’s needs are taken care of, or she simply “cannot function.”

Wildflower is described as a follow-up to her 1990 book, Little Girl Lost, in which she talked about the life events and people who were close to her including godfather Steven Spielberg, who made her an instant star in the blockbuster movie, E.T.

Drew Barrymore is currently married to Will Kopelman, although the two are reportedly filing for divorce and battling legal custody for their children, Olive, 3, and Frankie, 18 months.
