Amber Rose sat down for an interview with Time recently to talk about her new book, and she opened up about her finances in order to give advice to young women.
The model and former exotic dancer said the biggest mistake she ever made was actually making a lot of money, because she didn’t know how to keep her finances under control. Once her spending got to the point where her bank account was dwindling, she realized a harsh truth.
“I feel like I’m in a position to give advice to women because I’ve made all of these mistakes. One of the biggest financial mistakes that I ever made was making a lot of money—I wanna say I made $1 million in 2011—and I spent all of it. And then after that, I had to pay taxes, and I did not have money for the taxes, and I was like, ‘I cannot believe I did this.’ And I really had to start over … I know a whole lot of people that don’t pay taxes. And it comes back to bite you in the ass. Trust me. So I did pay all my taxes off, and I feel amazing now, but it took a lot of hard work,” Rose said.
Rose says she feels she’s in a good position to give advice to any woman wanting to build a brand, a career, or just learn how to earn money for herself, but it’s not all about numbers. Amber insists she is careful to be someone others want to work with, because not only does her job entail selling herself, she also just wants to make sure her employees love what they do.
“I have employees that work for me personally, and I pride myself on being an amazing boss, because I never want them to feel like they don’t wanna wake up and work for me every single day. I want them to go harder for me, and without me even knowing it, you know? Like, really saying, ‘I did all these extra things just for you, just because you’re really cool to work with.’”
Amber Rose garnered quite a bit of attention on Monday when she showed up at the Ace Of Diamonds gentlemen’s club in L.A. to host an event, wearing a short, tight, mesh dress and her trademark platinum hair. She’s also been sharing posts on Instagram from the show Blackish, which she has a guest spot on.
