Debbie Reynolds missed this year’s Governors Awards, put on by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

It’s a shame Debbie Reynolds didn’t make it, because she was the recipient of the coveted Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The award, which was accepted by the granddaughter of Debbie Reynolds in her absence, is presented to an “individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry,” according to the academy’s website.

Debbie Reynolds is experiencing a much longer than expected recovery from a recent surgery. The type of surgery wasn’t specified.

The academy posted a sweet tribute to a young Debbie Reynolds upon the announcement that she would be receiving this year’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
