Charlie Sheen will sit down with Matt Lauer on Tuesday to reveal some very personal bit of news about himself, and several media outlets are reporting that Sheen will disclose his HIV-positive status.
Whether that’s at the heart of the announcement or not remains to be seen, but according to TMZ, Charlie was diagnosed years ago and has already had legal battles with at least one woman who claims he exposed her to the disease.
As news spreads of Charlie Sheen’s alleged illness, many are wondering about whether the women in his life–such as celebrity ex Denise Richards–were aware or exposed while they were together. According to a source at Access Hollywood, Richards has known Sheen was diagnosed with the disease, but that he contracted it after their divorce in 2005. She and their two children are reportedly free of the illness.
Charlie Sheen has had a tumultuous few years, starting with his well-publicized rant about whether or not he was bi-polar and merging into his career, when he was fired from Two And A Half Men. Warner Brothers representatives reportedly sent Sheen’s lawyer a letter saying he needed to seek help and that he was self-destructive.
“Focus your energies on what no one so far has been able to do: get your client the sustained, rigorous and effective treatment he so urgently needs. It is clear that Sheen has no intention of agreeing to the intensive evaluation and treatment that his condition requires. It is also clear he does not believe he has a problem and that he will continue to conduct himself in a destructive manner,” the letter reads.
Charlie Sheen released a statement last year regarding his breakup with fiancee Brett Rossi, whom he called “Scotty”. The couple decided to go their separate ways after several months together; she has not commented on the rumors that he is HIV positive.
“Scotty and I had a great year together as we traveled the world and crossed a lot of things off our bucket list. She’s a terrific gal, but we’ve mutually decided to go our separate ways and to not spend the rest of our lives together. I’ve decided that my children deserve my focus more than a relationship does right now. I still have tremendous fondness for Scotty and I wish her all the best,” Charlie Sheen wrote.
