Derek Hough helped his Dancing With the Stars partner Bindi Irwin celebrate Steve Irwin Day on Sunday. Held every year on November 15th in Australia, Steve Irwin Day honors the life and legacy of Bindi Irwin’s late father, who was also known as the Crocodile Hunter.
On Sunday morning, Bindi Irwin shared an Instagram post that noted how very much she still misses her dad. She was just eight years old when he died.
“The greatest Dad on Earth. November 15. Steve Irwin Day. Remembering everything Dad worked so hard to achieve and continuing his legacy,” she captioned a photo of late father holding a crocodile in a throwback photo. “We miss you so much and are extremely proud to be carrying on in your footsteps.”
Derek Hough shared a post on his Instagram account in support of Steve Irwin Day, too.
“It’s officially #steveirwinday in Australia. He will always be remembered. #legend #wildlifewarrior @bindisueirwin #teamcrikey4life,” he wrote.
Don’t you love the photo Derek Hough posted of Bindi Irwin and her late dad? That same spark in Bindi’s eyes in the photo is evident on the ballroom floor these days, too. Derek Hough no doubt loves that Bindi is his partner this season on DWTS. Her enthusiasm is no doubt contagious.

Bindi Irwin is favored to win this season of Dancing With the Stars, but she’d likely say she wouldn’t stand a chance without Derek Hough in her corner. The two have become close friends during this season of competition. Derek no doubt sealed that friendship by supporting Bindi on Sunday–on what had to be a very difficult day.
