Gabriella Doolin went missing for a few minutes while attending a peewee football game in Scottsville, Kentucky with her mom on Saturday. Twenty minutes after she was reported missing, the seven-year-old’s body was found in a nearby creek.

The Kentucky State Police issued a statement on Monday, before which they said they are treating Gabriella Doolin’s death as a homicide.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville will be performing an autopsy to determine the exact manner and cause of death,” the agency said.

Gabriella Doolin’s senseless death has left her small community in shock.

“This could happen anywhere, very quickly. I think it’s safe to say Allen County has changed forever,” Trooper B.J. Eaton said in an interview with a local TV station.

Gabriella Doolin’s father, Brian Doolin, spoke with the Bowling Green Daily News in the aftermath of his little girl’s death, and said he’d “give anything to hold my baby girl just one more time.”

A prayer vigil was held on Sunday for the child and her family. The investigation is on-going.

In the meantime parents are holding their children are little closer, and being a bit more watchful. Gabriella Doolin was out of her mom’s sight for a very short time before she was found dead. This is telling those in this tight-knit community that there may be a killer in their midst.
