Scott Weiland, the ex-frontman for the rock band Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota on Thursday. He was 48.

On tour with his new band, the Wildabouts, Reuters reports Scott Weiland died of cardiac arrest in his sleep.

Weiland was born in California and openly admitted to an ongoing history of cocaine and heroin abuse. He was kicked out of the Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 for what his bandmates deemed “destructive behavior.”

Scott Weiland symbolized the grunge look of the 1990s, with “growling vocals” and his dyed red hair.

Scott Weiland is survived by two children and his ex-wife, Mary Forsburg. She wrote in her 2009 memoir–titled Fall to Pieces–that she and Weiland once took a limo to rehab, together.

Scott Weiland’s debut album with the Wildabouts debuted earlier in 2015.
