HBO insiders have just revealed the third main character of its latest and much-anticipated television series: actress Shailene Woodley.

The series is entitled Big Little Lies, which is adapted from the Liane Moriarty-penned bestselling novel of the same name. The plot revolves around three women whose children attend the same kindergarten. Their school interactions result in a friendship that develops as they confide in each other about their respective domestic problems. Their bond grows stronger after an unexpected murder takes place in their town.

Shailene Woodley is reportedly playing the role of a single mom, while the other two characters will be portrayed by fellow superstars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. While HBO has yet to make an official statement on Woodley’s involvement in the project, Kidman, who is co-producing the series, confirmed the news at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi, India on December 5th.

The 24-year-old actress has managed to carve out her own niche in Hollywood – the strong, independent, and sensitive female type in various blockbuster and critically-acclaimed films. After her breakout role as Amy Juergens in the 2008 ABC series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Shailene Woodley went on to star in her first major Hollywood film role in The Descendants, for which she earned several acting awards.

She officially became a household name after playing Tris Prior in the Divergent film series and Hazel Lancaster in The Fault in Our Stars. Shailene Woodley has reportedly been cast in the upcoming Oliver Stone biographical thriller, Snowden, which is scheduled to be released next year.

Kidman’s Blossom Films and Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard Films acquired the rights to novel’s film adaptation and have also enlisted the expertise of David E. Kelley to co-produce the series with them. Fans are eager to know who else will be joining Shailene Woodley in the acting roster, but they might have to wait until January of next year when filming is said to begin.
