Eva Longoria: Engagement Ring from Jose Antonio Baston Refreshingly Unique

Eva Longoria and Jose Antonio Baston announced their engagement this weekend with an Instagram shot taken in Dubai. The two have dated since 2103, so this likely comes as no surprise to those who follow the Desperate Housewives actress.

What is a bit surprising–and refreshingly unique–is Eva Longoria’s engagement ring. Like the setting for the proposal, the ring is far from what one might expect, based on current Hollywood standards.

Instead of a diamond as the main stone, Eva Longoria’s engagement ring features a large ruby surrounded by many clusters of smaller diamonds. Set in either white gold or platinum, it glistens against the Telenovela star’s hand.

Some expect Hollywood A-listers are getting away from traditional diamond rings and opting for different stones instead. Both Jessica Simpson and her sister, Ashlee, opted for rubies on their engagement rings. Across the pond in England, Kate Middleton received a sapphire as an engagement ring when Prince William proposed.

This will be the third marriage for Eva Longoria. She was married to Tyler Christopher from 2000 to 2004 and to NBA star Tony Parker. They split up in 2011.

Devious Maids star Ana Ortiz is beyond excited for her dear friend.

“They’re a gorgeous couple, and I’ve never seen her happier,” she says. “I am so thrilled that she has someone who is not intimidated by her and who is not afraid by her power, her beauty, her friendship and her drive.”

Jose Antonio Basto clearly gets Eva Longoria. The unique ring he gave her when he proposed likely signifies his respect for the unique, independent woman he will soon call his wife.
