Miss Universe Host Steve Harvey Announces Wrong Winner, Miss Philippines Eventually Crowned

Miss Universe Pageant host Steve Harvey made a big blunder during Sunday night’s pageant, incorrectly announcing Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arévalo, as the pageant winner. Realizing his mistake, Harvey shortly thereafter returned to the stage and announced Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the real winner of the Miss Universe Pageant.

Meanwhile, last year’s Miss Universe, Paulina Vega, removed the crown from Miss Colombia’s head and placed it on Miss Philippines instead.

Steve Harvey clearly felt terrible about the mistake he made.

“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake,” Harvey said on Twitter. “I feel terrible.”

Not everyone is reacting kindly to the Family Feud host’s mistake.

Miss Colombia appeared to take the mistake in stride.

“It’s a very non-traditional crowning moment,” she said backstage following the pageant. “It is very 2015.”

It will be interesting to see if Donald Trump disses Steve Harvey and the entire Miss Universe Pageant Organization for Sunday night’s gaffe.

This is the first pageant to air since WME-IMG acquired the The Miss Universe Organization from Donald Trump in September, following his disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants earlier in his campaign.

Did you catch The Miss Universe Pageant tonight? Could you feel the embarrassment both Steve Harvey and Miss Philippines no doubt felt when that inadvertent blunder was made?
