Judge Judy Does Not Sit On The Supreme Court, Guys

Judge Judy may know how to dish out tough love, justice and snappy comebacks, but she does not, in fact, sit on the Supreme Court.

While you may know that Judge Judy is a TV judge and not one of our country’s Supreme Court justices, it seems there are enough people that don’t know to warrant a study.

A study conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni shows that there could be a serious problem in the lack of education most American students are getting in civil government.

The study begins with the statement, “There is a crisis in American civic education. Survey after survey shows that recent college graduates are alarmingly ignorant of America’s history and heritage. They cannot identify the term lengths of members of Congress, the substance of the First Amendment, or the origin of the separation of powers.”

It continues, “They do not know the Father of the Constitution, and nearly 10% say that Judith Sheindlin—Judge Judy—is on the Supreme Court.”

Oh, but that’s not all. Judge Judy is just the cherry.

It seems that only 28.4% of college graduates correctly identify the father of the Constitution as James Madison. 59% said it was Thomas Jefferson. Do they know the difference between the Constitution and The Declaration of Independence?

A whopping 40% of college graduates didn’t know that Congress has the power to declare war.

After the discouraging findings ACTA President, Anne D. Neal, said, “Our country depends upon an educated populace; and while civic activity and service learning are important, they simply cannot substitute for substantive learning about our history and government.”

She added, “It’s time that colleges and universities replace their anything-goes approach to the curriculum with specific subject-matter requirements that will empower America’s next generation of leaders.”

What do you think about the astounding number of college students who think Judge Judy sits on the Supreme Court?
